The Independent is the latest incarnation of one of the city's most diverse live rooms and has quickly become one of the premier live music venues
of its size in the United States. 628 Divisadero has been showcasing live music in San Francisco for over 40 years. The Half Note, Vis Club,
Kennel Club and Justice League have all shared the same address.
Since its inception in February 2004, the venue has hosted over 2,000 shows. Many of today's best known and emerging artists have played The Independent. A sampling of those include Beck, The Black Eyed Peas, Bon Iver, Green Day, MGMT, Mos Def, Ween, Arctic Monkeys, Dave Chappelle, Phil Lesh & Friends, Sonic Youth, TV on the Radio, Ben Harper, Girl Talk, John Legend, M.I.A., Tegan & Sara, Fleet Foxes and Jimmy Cliff...to name only a very few.
The Independent is proud to be part of the burgeoning growth and improvement of the NOPA district around Divisadero Street, now home to some of the best restaurants and shops in San Francisco. With a continuous schedule of new and eclectic performers on stage, The Independent plays a vital role in San Francisco's storied live music past, present and future.
